Renter-Friendly Wallpaper That Comes Off With Hot Water

Wallpapers4Beginners

Renting usually means white walls. Many renters turn to peel-and-stick vinyl, but there is another option: real paper wallpaper hung with a water-soluble, plant-based paste, which comes off again with hot water.

Why paper wallpaper can work for renters

Our wallpaper is printed in Italy on real paper and hung with a plant-based paste. Because the paste dissolves in water, the sheets can be taken down with hot water when you move out, instead of being scraped off.

  • Removable with hot water: wet the sheet, let the water soak in for a few minutes, then lift it from a corner.
  • Pre-cut sheets: each sheet is 27.5 × 39.4 in (70 × 100 cm), easier to handle than a long roll, especially in narrow spaces.
  • Everything in one kit: the paste comes measured for your order, with step-by-step instructions.

Before you start: check with your landlord

Every lease is different. Ask your landlord or agent before decorating, and keep this page handy to explain how the wallpaper will be removed.

How to remove it when you move out

  1. Fill a bucket with hot water and use a large sponge.
  2. Wet one sheet generously and wait a few minutes so the water reaches the paste.
  3. Lift a corner and peel the sheet slowly; wet again any area that resists.
  4. Wipe the wall with a clean damp sponge to remove any paste left behind.

Where renters use it most

  • A feature wall behind the bed or the sofa
  • Small spaces: a hallway, a niche, a downstairs toilet
  • The back of a bookcase or the fronts of drawers, for an even smaller commitment

Try the paper first

If you are not sure about a design, order an A3 sample from its product page and see the paper in your own light before you order the full kit. Browse our wallpapers, or start with our best seller, the White Heron Chinoiserie.
