The print depicts a wave composition made with the typical style of "Japanism" (from the French Japonisme, it's the study of Japanese art and artistic talent). The subject is based on the influence of the Great Wave of Hokusai. This paper summarizes the project behind Wallpapers4Beginners: it combines old stories and creates new wallpaper proposals. The passion for Japanese art would not have taken place in the West if the Japanese prints had not arrived in Holland through the Indie Company, and then spread throughout Europe. This kind of print depicted a new aesthetic and were set on the two-dimensional representation, and thus on the flat color and the absence of chiaroscuro but dynamic. The curved, simple and sinuous line suggests the idea of movement.
